Homemade Treats
I was speaking in class today about how I use a Silicone Pyramid Baking to make homemade cakes as a high-value reward for my dog and those I meet during the training sessions I lead.
CLICK HERE for the tray I use.
What I like about these is the treats pop out a nice biscuit size once cooled and are ready to use immediately without chopping up!
You can freeze the homemade biscuits too for use in the future.
A handful quickly defrosts in my treats pouch.
Cooking for my dogs is one of my favourite things to do
1. Because they're easy to please!
2. I like to have the assurance of what's in their food, which you don't always get with commercial treats.
One of my go-to's is sardine cake.
Ingredient quantities don't need to be exact for it to work, or be accepted by your dog :)
- 2 tins of sardines in tomato sauce (avoid oils) (read about the benefits of adding fish to your dogs diet here: https://angliandogworks.com/products/treat-box-for-active-dogs?_pos=3&_sid=d70aaf151&_ss=r)
- 1-2 eggs
- 3 heaped tablespoons of self-raising flour (or blended oats if you want to feed grain-free
Mix the ingredients in a blender.
Spoon the paste onto the silicone pyramid tray and spread into each of the wells with a spatula.
I bake at around 200 degrees for roughly 15-20 minutes until they're golden.
I let them cool in the tray
I pop them out into a freezer-friendly container when room temperature.
Another summer recipe I do is Blackberry cake:
The same method as above, but the ingredients are as follows:
- 1 cup of self-raising flour
- 1 cup oats
- 3 tablespoons of dog-safe peanut butter
- 3 handfuls of blackberries
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1 egg if needed.
Blend the blackberries first, then mix in the other ingredients. Add an egg if it looks a little dry.
I generally bake these in silicone cupcake cases and cut up afterwards.
