Dog Training Place Board

A place board is a raised platform used as a target in dog training so your dog knows where to be and what is expected of them. It helps create clearer communication of the behaviour you're asking for, adds structure to training, and supports faster learning.
* This means the corners fit together at an angle rather than exposing the end grain of the timber. By reducing exposed end grain, less moisture can penetrate the wood, helping improve durability and weather resistance over time.
Place boards help set your dog up for success by making the correct choice easier and clearer.
When the right behaviour is consistently rewarded, the dog is more likely to repeat it in the future.
As training progresses, challenges are added, and eventually the place board is faded out altogether.
The repetitions completed during foundation training make it more likely that your dog will succeed when cued to do that behaviour in the future.
Foundation training builds positive associations with being on the unique texture. The texture of the place board surface provides a tactile contrast to the surrounding ground, making it easier for the dog to recognise when all four paws are in the right place versus the wrong place. For example, when teaching a sit-stay, your dog learns that remaining on the board earns rewards. Stepping off the board or creeping forward does not. Over time, this helps reduce mistakes and increases reliability.
